Mary Torjussen publishing announcement

Canelo to publish new psychological suspense novel by author Mary Torjussen

Editorial director Louise Cullen has acquired UK & Commonwealth excluding Canada rights from Kate Burke at Blake Friedmann Literary Agency to a new psychological suspense novel by Mary Torjussen. It will be published on the Canelo list in April 2020 to coordinate with publication by Penguin Books on the Berkley list in the US. Mary’s previous novels, Gone Without A Trace and The Girl I Used To Be, were published to wide acclaim and have been translated into five languages.

In The Closer You Get, a woman leaves her husband for her lover following an intense affair only to find he’s decided to stay with his wife after all. When she’s subsequently sacked and a number of disasters occur in other areas of her life she believes someone has set out to ruin her. What she doesn’t realise is that his wife knows everything and is determined to cling on to her marriage as well as keep secrets of her own.

Louise Cullen says: ‘Mary’s considerable success to date speaks for itself and I’m incredibly proud to bring her to the Canelo list. With this new novel she explores toxic marriages, shaky foundations and a twisted tale of revenge. I was captivated from the first page and couldn’t stop reading until I knew how the cards would fall. It’s page-turning in the truest sense and will delight Mary’s existing fans as well as hooking new readers.’

Mary Torjussen says: ‘I am thrilled to be working with Louise Cullen at Canelo. Canelo publish so many novelists that I admire, and I am proud to be associated with them.’

Kate Burke at Blake Friedmann Literary Agency says: ‘I'm delighted to have a new publisher on board for Mary's novel and very excited to see this one published next Spring'.
