Canelo Crime set to publish new crime series by Louisa Scarr
June 28, 2023
World English Language rights to three police procedural novels have been acquired from Ed Wilson at Johnson & Alcock in a three-book deal.
The PC Lucy Halliday series is set in the New Forest where Lucy works with her specialist search dog, Moss. In the first book, Finding the Dead, Lucy is still reeling from her husband’s mysterious disappearance eighteen months before, when a severed hand is found in nearby woodland. Alongside the new, but arrogant DI Jack Ellis, Lucy and Moss are called out to find the rest of the body. Quickly, it becomes clear – they’ve stumbled into a killer’s dumping ground. All this time, Lucy has suspected her husband is dead. As a renowned investigative journalist, he was always looking at things he shouldn’t be. Could this woodland hold the answer?
Louisa Scarr has published the five-book Butler & West series with Canelo Crime, the last of which, Out of the Ashes, will be published 6 July 2023. As Sam Holland, she has written two books, The Echo Man and The Twenty. Louisa studied Psychology at the University of Southampton and has lived in and around the city ever since. When she’s not writing, she is often pounding the streets in running shoes with her spaniel, Max. Louisa can be found @paperclipgirl on Twitter and @louisascarrwriter on Instagram.
Louise Cullen says: ‘Louisa’s ability to create the world of policing is matched only by her skill at crafting characters with great depth and emotional resonance. In combination with her eye for dark humour, and masterful plotting, there is no doubt that readers are going to love this new series. She is an author we’re enormously proud of and look forward to working with on these new crime novels.’
Louisa Scarr says: ‘I have loved working with the fantastic team at Canelo and jumped at the opportunity to start a new series. I am fascinated by the world of police dog handling and their incredible training, dedication, and expertise, so writing Finding the Dead has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait to find out what the future holds for PC Lucy Halliday.’
Ed Wilson says: ‘Louisa Scarr is both a brilliant crime writer and the owner of an unruly spaniel, so this is a series only she could write. We’re delighted to be working with Canelo again, who have been dogged in their dedication to getting Louisa’s books in front of thousands of readers.’
Finding the Dead will be published May 2024, in mass-market paperback and ebook, and the second book in November 2024. For more information, please contact [email protected]
