Canelo Crime snap up off-grid thriller The Nothing Month from Cat Miller

September 11, 2024

Canelo Crime have acquired World English language rights to an off-grid thriller by Cat Miller from Hattie Grünewald at The Blair Partnership in a two-book deal. The novels were brought to the list by commissioning editor Siân Heap before her departure from the company, and will be published by executive publisher Louise Cullen.

The Nothing Month is a ticking-clock thriller in which thousands choose to live without technology for thirty days. Nearly as soon as the event begins, a body is found in remote woodlands. When Sally uncovers red flags that her daughter who is taking part in the off-grid challenge may also be in danger she races to track Zara down. But how can one missing person be found when thousands have chosen to disappear?

Cat Miller has been published as Catherine Miller and won many fans for her emotional family dramas. The Nothing Month is her debut thriller, and will be followed by a novel about a podcaster whose past becomes the focus of their work when a grisly discovery is made at the abandoned home that belongs to their father – now serving time behind bars.

Louise Cullen says: ‘I loved the concept for The Nothing Month from the moment the pitch came in. The way that Cat has used an off-grid challenge to create a hugely tense ticking-clock thriller is genius, and I am incredibly excited to see what fun we can have with a concept that will ask readers: with no way to call for help, could you survive?’

Cat Miller says: ‘I’m delighted to be joining Canelo Crime. I had the idea for The Nothing Month back in 2021, the year this is set in, and it was something I kept coming back to and wanted to bring to life. Thank you to Hattie Grünewald, Rhian Parry, Louise Cullen, Sian Heap, Alicia Pountney and the Canelo team for helping to make it possible and seeing the same vision I had. I can’t wait for readers to experience a different kind of book… I hope they enjoy coming on this journey with me!’

The Nothing Month will be published in July 2025 in mass market paperback and ebook, with a second novel to follow in 2026. For more information please contact [email protected]
