Canelo set to publish a brand new Second World War series by Vicki Beeby
June 02, 2025
Editorial director Emily Bedford has acquired World English language rights to The Flying Nightingales saga quadrilogy by Vicki Beeby from Lina Langlee at The North Literary Agency in a four-book deal.
Set in London, Vicki’s series follows a trio of WAAF nursing orderlies as they volunteer for the air ambulance – a perilous but thrilling contribution to the war effort. Ruby, Holly and Meg take to the skies and risk their lives in order to help those in need and support the pilots they fly with. Packed with romance, mystery and Vicki’s trademark breathtaking air battles, the Flying Nightingales are sure to dazzle readers!
Vicki Beeby writes historical fiction about the friendships and loves of service women brought together by the Second World War. Her first job was as a civil engineer on a sewage treatment project, so things could only improve from there. Since then, she has worked as a maths teacher and education consultant before turning freelance to give herself more time to write. In her free time, when she can drag herself away from reading, she enjoys walking and travelling to far-off places by train. She lives in Shropshire in a house that doesn’t contain nearly enough bookshelves.
Emily Bedford says: ‘Every single one of Vicki’s books brings me such joy, I couldn’t be happier to continue working with her! Vicki manages to capture themes and sentiments that transcend the time periods, crafting characters who never fail to leave me inspired, long after finishing their story. I know that The Flying Nightingales will be her best series yet.’
Vicki Beeby says: ‘I’m delighted to be working with Emily and everyone at Canelo again. Their dedication and expertise make them the best team to bring this new series into the world, and I can’t wait for readers to meet the Flying Nightingales. Thank you to Lina for finding my books such a wonderful home!’
Lina Langlee says: ‘Vicki has quickly earned a loyal readership with her uplifting, character-driven sagas, and Emily and Canelo have been a brilliant publishing partner in that journey. We’re so excited for readers to dive into The Flying Nightingales series – her fans, old and new, are in for a real treat!’
Courage for the Flying Nightingales will be published in February 2025, in paperback and ebook, with A Near Miss for the Flying Nightgales to follow. For more information please contact [email protected]
