Canelo capture two high-concept thrillers by Sarah Moorhead

March 15, 2023

Commissioning Editor Kit Nevile has acquired World English Language rights to two standalone high-concept crime thrillers by Sarah Moorhead from Ed Wilson at Johnson & Alcock in a two-book deal.

In The Treatment, the future of law enforcement has arrived, courtesy of Janus Justice. Their ground-breaking ‘Offender Treatment Programme’ has been hailed as the most effective way of tackling crime yet, and seen reoffending rates plummet. As offenders move through the four-tiered system their physical, emotional and psychological needs are dealt with. If they prove unreceptive to treatment, they are moved up through the tiers, each one more drastic in its methods. But psychiatrist Grace Gunnarsson has uncovered a terrible flaw in the system, one that is allowing people to get away with murder…

Born in Liverpool, Sarah Moorhead has told stories since childhood and uses writing as bubblegum for her overactive brain – to keep it out of trouble. Fascinated by meaning, motivation and mystery, she studied Theology at university. Over the last twenty seven years, apart from teaching in secondary school, Sarah has attained a black belt in kickboxing, worked as a chaplain, established a Justice and Peace youth group, and written articles for newspapers and magazines about her work in education and religion.

Kit Nevile says: ‘The Treatment is everything I could want in a thriller – excellent pacing, fascinating characters and a totally compelling narrative with a moral undercurrent that asks poignant and troubling questions about the state of modern society. Sarah’s voice is razor sharp and resonant, and I can’t wait for readers to experience this important, unforgettable novel.’

Sarah Moorhead says: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with the very talented and enthusiastic team at Canelo. Kit is my dream editor, someone who has the vision and insight to take my writing to the next level and help me to bring my ideas to a wide audience. The themes of justice, crime, revenge and morality have always been an obsession of mine and I’m excited to be able to share my stories with readers.’

The Treatment will be published in August 2023, in ebook and paperback, with a second book to follow in Summer 2024. For more information please contact
